Anita Strong of Dogtech Hills District (Sydney) attended the Pet Festival held by Blacktown Council.  Anita reported as follows.

It was a great day at the Pet Festival with Blacktown City Council, held at the Animal Holding Facility on 30 October. Despite the heavy downpour for about 20 mintues, the turnout was good with over 1,500 visitiors with their dogs and a cat! I delivered a demonstration on training tips with Chum Chum, which was well received by the audience. Chum, of course, was a star on the day as he showed off his tricks and paraded around proudly in his DogTech T shirt. The event was a fantastic opportunity to reacquaint with previous clients, meet potential customers, talk to people in the dog industry and build relationship and credibility with the Council.

The Gold Coast Expo was held on 17 & 18 September 2011 at Central Park Oval, Varsity Lakes.  Our Dogtech instructor for the Gold Coast, Troy Fitzgerald was on hand to help visitors with their doggie behavioural problems, and was joined by our Queensland Manager, Justin Jordan on Sunday.  This pet expo is the largest Pet and Animal Expo in Queensland, giving businesses a great opportunity to showcase their products and services, and Troy reports that it was a great success.

The annual Paws & Claws for a Cause Community Dog Walk is held at The Entrance on the last Sunday in August each year. The event raises much needed funds for both the RSPCA Central Coast and for the Wyong Shire Animal Care Facility who both work tirelessly to educate pet owners on responsible pet ownership.

Jeff Hallam and Matt Thomas supported the event and manned a display stand, offering training advice to the many dog lovers who attended.

In addition to the walk, there was family entertainment, Best Dressed Dog Competition and amusement rides for the children.  Also free vouchers for microchipping were handed out and free “poop” bags – in case of any accidents!

A picturesque location and fine weather helped to ensure the day’s success.

DogTech® trainers John Vella and Katrina Boyd  attended Warringah council’s “Dogs Big Day Out 2011 – Playtime for Canines ” which was held at French’s Forest Show Ground, Blackbutt Road, French’s Forest and donated DogTech merchandise to the value of $260.00 to be used as prizes on the day.

The event featured doggie demonstrations, stalls and giveaways, entertainment, face painting, jumping castle and food stalls as well as competitions for best trick, cutest puppy, rags to riches and best fancy dress.

The annual PetFest will be held on Sunday, 18 September 2011 between 10am and 3pm at Holroyd Gardens, Corner Pitt & Walpole Streets, Merrylands.

Liverpool City Council is organising a free Microchipping Day for dogs and cats on 18 September 2011 from 10.00AM to 2.00PM.   (All dogs and cats over 12 weeks of age are required by law to be permanently identified (microchipped).)

Venue is Woodford Park, Hoxton Park Road, Liverpool.  Parking at Whitlam Leisure Centre.

If you require your pet to be microchipped, Liverpool Council requests that you take along a Council Rates Notice or Drivers Licence.

On the day there will also be displays, a sausage sizzle, jumping castle, give-aways and free animal health checks – all welcome!

Min Lacey – Dogtech Gloucestershire

On 8 May, I attended a Fun Dog Show at Cam, Dursley with my 20 week old pup, Butu.  The show was to raise money for Teckels (a no-kill rescue) and Oldies (a charity that places adult dogs).  It was a sunny, windy day with a great attendance.  I entered Butu for 3 classes – Best Pup, Best Dog to have never won a rosette and Handsomest Dog.  Butu tried out the scurry (retrieving a bumper – timed) and surprised me by fetching and bringing back (“killing it” first …)

We also took part in a fun agility course … which convinced me that lure coursing is the sport for Butu – I’m not expected to chase the lure too!  Going through the weave of poles was more of a drag than Butu competing.  The first class was very well attended, and Butu only lost out to a Boxer – his first ever rosette for second place :-)  Given that Butu now had a rosette, I checked that he was still allowed to enter “Best dog to have never won a rosette” and he was, but with the same vet judging  I was unsurprised not to be placed.

For his last class, there were so many entries they were divided into two sections.  I was over the moon when Butu made the last eight and finally received a second rosette for fourth Handsomest Dog.

The Best of Show went to a Chihuahua (Prettiest Bitch).  Butu thoroughly enjoyed meeting all the other dogs, including a massive English Mastiff, who was heaviest in show (over 70kg!)
